1
Begin with a typically flawed site photo and vector lines drawn directly in Photoshop.
2
Restore the site photo by cloning from other views and add detail to the emerging elevation.
3
Import features to the emerging scene, add texture to the building elevation.
4
Construct lines of perspective (yellow) and add shadows to building.
5
Import the elevation into the scene, sizing the building into place and constructing 3D space.
PHOTOSHOP WORKSHOP 3
With Photoshop basics behind you, the intermediate workshop takes your knowledge to the next level, incorporating the advanced selection tools necessary for taking full advantage of Photoshop's image editing capabilities.

Typically the architect has gone out to the site to photograph a panorama that will be taped together from several photos.

A layer of trace would then be placed over the scene and conceptual design would be drawn on the trace. This case study shows the equivalent study done Photoshop, starting with cleaning up the site photo, cloning from existing elements, introducing landscape elements, cars and finally a building elevation that is not only drawn in Photoshop, but tweaked into perspective from directly within the program.

O U T L I N E

"Learning from an architect's perspective sheds new light on commonly used tools. Not your average continuing-ed course."

Tom Jangaard Planner, Bellinger & Foster.

"In this fast-paced Photoshop workshop, Architects Toolbox gives a broad overview with repeated examples that include step-by-step instructions. The hands-on time allowed me to develop my intuition and the self confidence to apply the techniques taught. I was able to go home and apply what I learned to complete a project I needed for Monday."

Curves
Where levels gives you control over shadows, midtones and hightlights, curves allow you to adjust along the continuous spectrum. Building on the intuition established with levels, we take you to the next level.

Advanced Selections and the Pen Tool
Though Photoshop is a pixel based program, the Pen-Tool allows you to create vector-based selections and brush-stokes. Photoshop 6 takes this to another level entirely. We cover the ways.

Actions
Repetitive tasks at the press of a button. Actions allow you to automate your workflow, save complex effects that can be applied later and activate the F-keys at the top of the keyboard. Course includes actions file and template for keyboard.

The Embarcadero Case Study
A recreation of the Embarcadero case study, including files you'll take with you on disc.

Histories
Photoshop 6.0 has multiple undos. In this segment, we'll discover how the history palette also allows you to save variations of your project that can be accessed later and even "painted" back to previous states.

Filters
Here we'll look deeper into the magic of Photoshop's filters and some third-party plug-ins.
